Description

In an increasingly digital world, misinformation and disinformation pose complex challenges that threaten public trust, polarize communities, and undermine democratic values. This session will address the critical need for strategic, cross-sector collaboration to build a digital environment rooted in accuracy, transparency, and trust. Panelists will discuss the evolving landscape of online misinformation, identifying emerging patterns, platforms, and technologies that either perpetuate or counter false information. The discussion will explore the role of AI in misinformation, the responsibilities of digital platforms, and the power of media literacy initiatives to empower users in discerning fact from fiction. Emphasis will be placed on multistakeholder approaches, involving governments, tech companies, civil society, and academia, to implement solutions that support informed digital spaces.

Mr. Khaled Mansour

Mr. Khaled Mansour is a writer and communications expert with extensive experience at the United Nations and as a foreign correspondent. He has experience as a journalist and as a UN Spokesperson and Communications Advisor/Director. He has also served as he was the Executive Director of Egypt's leading human rights organization, EIPR

H.E. Dr. Esam A. AlWagait

H.E. Dr. Esam Alwagait brings 20 years of IT experience, he has held key leadership roles, including CEO of the National Digital Transformation Unit and Deputy Minister for Technical Affairs. A former academic, his research focused on social media and data mining. His Excellency holds Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Valencia Polytechnic University (UPV), Spain

Ms. Natalia Gherman

Ms. Natalia Gherman is Assistant Secretary-General (ASG) and Executive Director of the Counter-Terrorism Committee Executive Directorate (CTED), since March 2023.

From 2017 to 2023, Ms. Gherman served as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Regional Centre for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia.
