1. What digital skills do young people need to navigate the digital world and be successful 21st Century citizens, and how should they be taught?
2. What are the key elements for getting young people engaged and incentivized to build their digital skill sets?
3. What can the private sector, government, and other stakeholders provide to help with engagement and incentives?
What will participants gain from attending this session? Participants will learn from the experiences of experts implementing Digital Inclusion programs in Africa, Europe, and Latin America. They will learn from their challenges and how they overcame them, implementation strategies that have brought success to their programs, and how they cascade them in their communities to get. The participant will also learn the work Private organisations, Civil Society Organisations(CSO), government, and other stakeholders are doing in these regions as they work towards ensuring digital inclusion and equity for all.
Description:
The challenge of digital inequality, lack of connectivity, and ICT skills cannot be tackled effectively by any one company, government, organization, or stakeholder group. The proposed workshop will discuss multi-stakeholder approaches to meaningful connectivity for all, bridging the digital divide and empowering vulnerable communities, with a focus on digital skills-building initiatives benefiting kids and youth.
• Discuss roles and responsibilities of all stakeholders (private sector, civil society, governments, international organizations) in fostering a safe and trustworthy environment for children and young people from diverse socio-economic backgrounds and abilities to engage with technologies successfully
• Discuss effective ways to strengthen the skills of children and youth in the digital world, promote digital literacy, and the development of 21st Century skills
• Highlight responsible practices and appropriate policies in ensuring capacity building and digital skills development for vulnerable communities
- Knowledge of best practices in implementing Digital Inclusion programs from Africa, Europe, and Latin America and of initiatives taken by various organisations, governments, or communities to promote digital inclusion of children and youth.
- Participants will identify the challenges hindering the digital inclusion of children and youth in Africa, Europe, and Latin America, focusing on the social, economic, and cultural factors that prevent them from accessing and participating in the digital economy.
- Working strategies towards addressing challenges in implementing digital inclusion programs while considering different regions’ unique needs and circumstances and the global trends and best practices.
- An opportunity for participants to network and collaborate with peers from different regions which will lead to joint initiatives, partnerships, and advocacy efforts to promote digital inclusion of children and youth.
Hybrid Format: To ensure the session will be hybrid, The Walt Disney Company/Paradigm Initiative/(organisers) will have technical support staff on standby to troubleshoot any issues that may arise during the event. This will ensure that participants online will fully participate and benefit from the discussion. Additionally, the organisers will ensure three speakers are physically present on location.
