1) What are the key roles that civil society can play in cybersecurity capacity building, and what are the major challenges they face in effectively carrying out these roles?
2) How can we help build meaningful partnerships across civil society organizations and other stakeholders, both vertically and horizontally, and ensure triangulation for effective cybersecurity capacity building?
What will participants gain from attending this session? Participants will be able to engage in a dynamic conversation on the role of CSOs in making and shaping CCB activities. We are particularly keen to engage the local community in not only asking questions but also sharing their perspectives and learnings on CCB implementation/lessons-learned and better explore how can CSOs help and play a role in CCB activities across local, regional and international levels.
Description:
This workshop will discuss the role of civil society organisations (CSO) in making and shaping cyber capacity building (CCB) initiatives. While CSOs often play a significant role in implementing CCB activities at the national and local level, their expertise and experiences face limitations when it comes to shaping international CCB. This workshop will bring stakeholders from diverse groups to reflect on how to best leverage CSO knowledge and what strategies have been and can be further designed to connect and engage CSOs expertise together with donors, implementers and partners in future CCB design.
The GFCE Advisory Board (AB) has an important mandate to bring the perspectives of civil society organizations into cyber capacity building efforts. These perspectives are closely aligned with development agendas, but potential alignments need to be understood and discussed more deeply to implement meaningful partnerships. This session will:
o Expand the global dialogue on connecting cyber capacity building with development agendas and communities;
o Result in a publicly available report on the session to be shared with CCB community - including but not restricted to the GFCE.
o Contribute to other ongoing international dialogues on CCB such as the Global Conference on Cyber Capacity Building (GC3B) and inform the activities of GFCE stakeholder as well as the activities of the GFCE Regional Hubs.
Hybrid Format: The workshop will be organised in a conscious hybrid manner, with speakers being available both online and onsite as well as with a dedicated in person moderator and an online chat moderator who will ensure that the online participants engage meaningfully and equally. To improve engagement and interactivity during the session, we will ensure to provide sufficient space for discussion and avoid using the allocated time on passive listening to presentations. By doing this, we aim to use time in a more interactive way that will allow the workshop to achieve the meaningful conversation needed to address the subject of our discussion.
