Firstly, why must children's cyber security literacy education receive further attention from the international community? Secondly, what is the role of educators, including parents, schools, media, government, law enforcement, civil society, the private sector, and children themselves in educating children about network security literacy and how can they collaborate effectively? Finally, how can stakeholders be encouraged to work together for inclusive educational development and welfare?
What will participants gain from attending this session? Firstly, the acquisition of some innovative methods of children's cyber security literacy education. The examples and scenarios of children's cyber security literacy education will include school education, family education and media education. We will show targeted education mechanisms that are essential to respond to challenges. Secondly, the acquisition of a better understanding of the roles and duties of distinct types of educators such as parents, schools, and media, in relation to children's cyber security literacy education. Thirdly, the acquisition of a better understanding of mechanisms for ensuring the sustainability and inclusiveness of children's cyber security literacy education.
Description:
Focusing on the sub-theme of "cyber security, cyber crime, and online safety," this session pays attention to online safety education for children and effective ways to improve their cyber security literacy through education. Recently, UNICEF’s has pointed out the need to establish a safe and secure internet environment for young people and children, helping them to fully realize their potential. At the same time, jointly with ITU, UNICEF has launched a global initiative to promote the connection between schools and surrounding communities, invest in relevant technologies that enable children to have digital skills, provide tools for parents and guardians to get basic digital literacy, and ensure children have the ability to search online. The intended goal of this initiative is to show that along with the construction of the educational environment, it is also imperative to promote the participation and cooperation of all stakeholders on this issue, especially in terms of the implementation and adaptation of new positive and innovative methods that shall deliver more effective education. In summary, this workshop will give opportunities to all interested and relevant parties to effectively promote best practices of children's cyber security literacy and education. In addition, the attendees will learn ways of how to enable children to have their own cyber security capabilities that actively allow them to respond to online risks and learn the complex environment of the internet in a safe way.
Firstly, the workshop aims to raise awareness of the importance of children's cyber security literacy education among all stakeholders in the international arena, and to share experiences of best educational practices, and research. Secondly, the workshop aims to clarify the responsibilities and roles of all stakeholders in children's cyber security literacy, and to promote cooperation among all stakeholders. Thirdly, the workshop intends to stimulate the education sector into building a specialized education system suitable for children's cyber security literacy education in various countries. In addition, the workshop hopes to produce a scholarly peer-reviewed publication of a compilation of best practices of innovative achievements related to children's online safety literacy education worldwide.
Hybrid Format: 1. Conduct a survey before the workshop to provide first-hand information and data support for the workshop.
2. Hold a pilot forum before the workshop. The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and Wuhan University jointly holding a pilot forum on children's network security literacy education as a warm-up forum to provide professional support for the seminar.
3. Design questioning and open discussions during the workshop. Each participant is encouraged to share their views.
4.Prepare visual materials (i.e., videos, images, infographics). Visual materials will used throughout the workshop to enliven the session and assist those whose first language is not English.
5. During the session, the Tokyo Illustration Association of Japan will provide the illustrations or exhibitions of children's cyber safety education to make the topics discussed more visually appealing.
