Round Table - 90 Min
The rapidly changing Internet and digital technology landscape greatly affect the regional debates and discussions at APrIGF and EuroDIG. At the same time, global Internet governance is also undergoing a shift, with the beginning of the WSIS+20 process and the United Nations Summit of the Future. These processes could have a profound impact on the future of Internet governance and the developing digital societies of our respective regions.
As an attempt to foster cross-regional cooperation EuroDIG and APrIGF would like to organise a joint Townhall session and exchange on the regional priorities. Both regions are characterised by great diversity in culture, language as well as political influence, but there is no clear boundary between the regions and overlapping considerations.
We would like to use the outputs and results (EuroDIG Messages, APrIGF Synthesis Document) from the debates held at the regional IGFs as a starting point, and leverage the Townhall format to foster opportunities to identify shared common ground, understand the reasons for divergent regional priorities and find possibilities for future cooperation.
There will be additional specificity after our respective IGFs have been held in June (EuroDIG) and August (APrIGF) 2023.
Both EuroDIG and APrIGF are taking great efforts to facilitate meaningful and inclusive online participation at the regional events. We will organise this session at the IGF accordingly by connecting onsite and online participants with dedicated and mindful moderation.
Speakers can be both an online and an onsite participant and speaking opportunities will be allocated equitably. We will rely on the official remote participation tools and platform that IGF will provide (Zoom or otherwise).
For additional participation and interaction, we may also include tools for polling or surveys before, during and/or after the session. In a Townhall format, both EuroDIG and APrIGF would like to foster and encourage greater cross-regional exchange and networking opportunities for all participants.
