Sook-Jung Dofel, Director General at Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH, leads the Academy for International Cooperation, focusing on strategic competence development and skills training for international cooperation professionals. She also serves as GIZ’s AI Strategic Lead, where she manages an interdisciplinary team to explore and leverage the potential of Artificial Intelligence for the organization, while additionally ensuring GIZ’s compliance with the EU AI Act. Before assuming her current role, Sook-Jung served as the Head of Strategy and Strategic Foresight, working on various aspects of corporate development with a particular focus on data and technology-driven trends. Prior to this, she spent 10 years living and working abroad, leading programs related to Public Financial Management in Malawi and Cameroon, and managing assignments in the Philippines and Ecuador. Sook-Jung Dofel focuses on Learning & Development, digital transformation, and emerging technologies, with an emphasis on future skills, behavioral sciences, and Artificial Intelligence. She is also experienced in internet policy, governance, and strategic foresight, building on her background in law. Sook-Jung Dofel won the German Federal Government’s #wirvsvirus hackathon, the largest worldwide to date. She served as a member of the UN Secretary-General’s Multistakeholder Advisory Group for the Internet Governance Forum (MAG) from 2021-2023 and was reappointed for 2025.
